Van joins in with the English words, and they swap about like this - taking a verse each. There is a middle-eight of violin, drum, aeolian pipe, tin whistle and one hand clapping. All instruments played by The Chieftans Guest vocalists: Mary Black, Maura O'Connell, June Boyce ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When Van Morrison and The Chieftans got together to produce this album in 1988, a lot of people declared that it was an "uneasy collaboration". Whether in reality that was true or not, I have no idea and it's not for me (or for those people, I don't think) to say, but as far as I am concerned and at least from the musical aspect, it's a very harmonious collaboration.
