This song opens with harp.... in come the violins, tin whistle and drum. Then Paddy Moloney's rather reedy voice begins to sing the song in gaelic. Van joins in with the English words, and they swap about like this - taking a verse each. There is a middle-eight of violin, drum, aeolian pipe, tin whistle and one hand clapping. All instruments played by The Chieftans Guest vocalists: Mary Black, Maura O'Connell, June Boyce ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When Van Morrison and The Chieftans got together to produce this album in 1988, a lot of people declared that it was an "uneasy collaboration". Whether in reality that was true or not, I have no idea and it's not for me (or for those people, I don't think) to say, but as far as I am concerned and at least from the musical aspect, it's a very harmonious collaboration.
