Advantages: Good songs, peaceful and folky Disadvantages: Few weaker tracks, lack of experience sometimes shows
Don't be put off by the poor pun of the title (pulp-it), this is a very good album, especially when considering the inexperience of the performers, and the low budget for the recording. The group here has very little to do with the Pulp of today with Jarvis Cocker being the only current member of the group. This is reflected in the sound; although Pulp have always had elements of Folk in their music, this is an entirely Folk-based affair, with none of the disco and electronica of later albums. The predominant instruments are acoustic guitar, piano, flute and cello, but the sound is not weak as all instruments are performed well and the sound is led by Jarvis' already strong voice. The music is definately gentle, but there are some memorable tunes such as 'My Lighthouse'. Summary: |
