Home - Simply Red

Home was released by Simply Red in March 2003 after a long awaited absence after their previous album in 1999(Love and the Russian Winter). Although there was Its only Love released in November 2000, this was a compilation of love songs. The title of the album is apt as it was recorded at Mick Huchnalls own home where he has a recording studio. It was also a gamble. Simply red had departed with their previous record label East west records after a relationship of 15 Years. Huchnall was keen to go back to simply reds roots and Love and the Russion Winter was not an album the band felt passion for but simply something the record company had wished them to do. This was ...

Stars - Simply Red

I have always been a fan of Simply Red , or more especially Mick Hucknall, as we grew up in the same area of Manchester, and now my son is about to go to the same school that he did, namely Audenshaw High School For Boys. When we went to have a look around the school I lingered a while in the music room, wondering if anything in that particular room gave him inspiration, if it did then I missed it! I have always enjoyed most of their stuff, especially the classic like Holding Back The Years, but my favourite CD just has to be Stars (and also the video for the title track!) The CD itself contains 10 really good songs, all sung in that sexy soulful voice, but my ...

Skateboarding Down Merlins Hill With Penny Harry - Picture Frame Seduction
King Of Rock - Run D.M.C.
A couple of nice tracks
Repetitive beats
Into the Unknown - Bad Religion
Brett Gurewitz gets some guitar solos, and Greg Graffin shows he can do mellow too.
A very lousy eighties synth-pop-rock album.
Human Jerky - Cattle Decapitation
Better guitars than most grindcore.
It's still the same old grindcore excrement.
Sword's Song - Ambehr
Pleasantly melodic heavy metal with strong melodic death metal touches.
Later songs fail to leave as great an impression.
El Angel Caido - Avalanch
The peak of Avalanch's melodic/prog/power style, with interesting experiments.
Some songs still seem like filler, especially by comparison to the strong closing material.
Bard's Song - Blind Guardian
It's a great old song.
We didn't need five versions.
Animetal Marathon 3: Tsuburaya Pro - Animetal
Consistent heavy metal adaptations of anime theme tunes.
No good for people who don't get it, and lacking in variety.
