This is another one of my write-while-you-listen ops, which means (for those of you that have not been following my extensive trail of other while-while-you-listen ops (currently including Green Day - Nimrod)!) I put the CD into my CD drive, press play, and type what I think, as the music plays. Hence, lyrisc may be slightly wrong, but you can be assured of the authenticity of the opinion. Happy reading! *presses play* Well, the first track is called "Disclaimer". This follows the Offspring tradition of having a humorous beginning to their albums. This is a parody of actual warnings found written on some albums/video sleeves. It is extremely funny: ... Read the complete review

This album was made before The Offspring hit the big time with Smash, and therefore they were a fairly small band, and not out to please everyone as they were with Americana. I think this definatly shows throughout the record, and although it may not be quite as good as Smash, it?s very nearly there! <Disclaimer> A humorous introduction to the album, an annoying sounding American going on (to a background of electric guitars) that if this album offends you in any way, then don?t listen to it! Basically it?s taking the mickey out of censorship, which in my books isn?t a bad thing. <The meaning of life> The song starts out strongly with ... Read the complete review

Like many people I was first brought into contact with The Offspring when they released their fifth album ‘Americana’ in the UK. I loved there softer punk rock feel, as I was not too keen on the hardcore punk stuff around, but The Offspring’s Americana was one of my favourite albums at the time, but since then I have gone back and discovered some of their older stuff, and have found it just as good is not better. I say older stuff, ‘Ixnay on the Hombre’ was released only a year before ‘Americana’, but it was the latter that won them their deserved fame. ‘Americana’ is by no means a bad album, but ... I only recently started liking the Offspring, and it was this album that turned me around. I personally think it is the best album they have released so far, and is currently my favourite album in the world. Unlike some other albums (I'm thinking of "Americana" in particular), the tracks here are all pure punk rock, like the Offspring should be. There's the loud, strong rhythms of "Mota", "The Meaning of Life" and "Cool to Hate", and some more laid back music like "Gone Away" and "Amazed." But I have to gove credit to a band who stick an intermission track right in the middle, complete with ... Read the complete review

Many people regard this album as a come down from the previous album 'Smash' but in my opinion I actually prefer 'Ixnay on the Hombre' because I think its better, with good, solid songs, each one of which I like. It also (like Smash) has a humourous edge on it with the disclaimer and intermission. Almost every song on Ixnay is class, it begins with the storming 'Meaning Of Life' and throughout you are taken on a ride of fun and also deep meaning!! Stand out tracks include 'All I Want', 'Cool to Hate', 'Don't Pick it Up' and the deeper 'Gone Away', 'Amazed' and 'Change the World' Some ... Read the complete review
