Finntroll are undoubtedly one of the most distinctive metal bands playing today, combining harsh Scandinavian black metal with ridiculously upbeat Finnish polka music in a combination that really shouldn't work, but somehow does. Though perhaps it doesn't after all, and the fans are just deluded by the sheer audacity of it all. 'Jaktens Tid' is Finntroll at their most extreme, really balancing out the black metal and polka elements in each song, led by the excellent keyboard work of Trollhorn. Stuck in a time warp, and not the best example of the genre. Very heavy, just what you expect. Certainly not for the faint hearted. Bold and varied death metal epic. Too sprawling and changeable. Great example of the early Swedish death metal sound. Few original ideas, and lacking individuality. Talented death metal with a nice melodic angle.
