Advantages: good songs.
Disadvantages: some fillers
The association between music director Pritam and actor Emraan Hashmi has always worked well for audiences, and Jannat's soundtrack only strengthens the fact.
'Zara Se' is totally Pritam's style. Featuring his favorite singer K.K, the song has a lounge feel to it and is extremely pleasant to the ears. Zara Se has simple lyrics, and a tune that goes well with the setting of the song. Zara Se appears in a 'power ballad' version later in the album( track 7) which is more softer in approach but with increased instrumentals playing in the background. I prefer the second version more, but both the versions are good!
New singer Kamran Ahmed is entrusted to sing 'Lambi Judai' which blends rock, pop and sufi music together. Judai is more upbeat in terms of the instruments used, but the lyrics carry sad overtones. Kamran's husky vocals add much to the feel of the song.
K.K is back with 'Haan Tu Hain' where Pritam tries to go the Indian way with the use of indian percussion instruments in the backgrounds. The lyrics are ordinary and the chorus part hampers the flow of the song. Not as good as the first two!
Pritam's strength lies in giving breaks to newcomers, and Rana Mazumder holds his head high with 'Duur Na Ja'-my most favorite track from the album. 'Duur Na Ja' is intense, poignant and extremely captivating- thanks to the lyrics and the fantastic rendition by the singer. Pritam's composition deserves top marks, just listen to the guitar solo in the middle; no wonder Pritam loves rock music! Duur na ja exudes emotion and pain. Brilliant!
Rupam Islam sings 'Jannat Jahan' which also falls under the rock genre, there's some screaming and shouting but the music is a bit over the top for my liking! A decent song, but not more than that!
Richa Sharma gets to the sing the female version of Lambi Judai. The only female song in the film, the version turns out better than the male one! The choice of singer is top notch here, since the husky voice really does it here!
Jannat's album is another feather in Pritam's hat!
Summary: Pritam continues his success run.
