In a Soulful Mood - Charles Mingus: ... Roy Eldridge's trumpet playing is absolutely fantastic and is set off nicely by Mingus. Jo Jones does a fantastic drum solo mid way through using brushes and sounds brilliant. Track six, "Body and Soul", sounds how it reads. A soulful introduction of tinkling piano keys and soft alto sax followed by a sprightly, upbeat display of stupidly fast saxophone playing. "Mysterious Blues" is a clev...

... and down a scale, what a great range, what a jazzy song, a real classic. And to top it all a smooth sax in the background, musical heaven. 7. (There Is) No Greater Love Very Billie Holliday or Dinah Washington, smooth, loved up jazz, very, very nice, great to listen to in the bedroom!! 8. In My Bed Not sure about this track, bit jazz, bit funk, bit hip hop, reminds me a bit of Lauren Hill being lazy, pleasant enough, just not a 'killer'. 9. Take The Box About a break up, in the best tradition of moody soul/jazz, lots of piano and lots of poignant imagery, again, a bit like Lauren Hill, or maybe Mary J Blige, I like this track. 10. October Song The only track tha...

GKDurkin Tutu - Miles Davis
... periods of work. The 1986 album Tutu is a move on from the orchestral 50's, the 60's of the quintet and the fusion of the 70's to the machine-funk area of the 80's, a period of mixed fortunes for artist and listener alike. The casual browser and Miles fan may be drawn to the bold cover and the reflection of the times in track names such as Full Nelson (referring to Nelson Mandela) and the title track tribute to Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Arranged by bassist Marcus Miller in an electro-funk style, tutu is perhaps the most successful of Miles's late rock projects. Its lack of organic development - Davis overdubbed his tight contributions over Miller's composed backing tr...

kjuwwa Frank - Amy Winehouse
... I had to get on the band wagon. I only had one reservation. Is the album any good? At £5.97 from Amazon I had to go for it really. The cd has thirteen songs. The music is fusion of soul and Jazz. I won't be surprised if this young lady is not compared to past singers like Nina Simone. She has a brilliant husky voice; she is a natural, lyric written by her have a sense of humour, listen to 'Fxck Me Pumps'. She is making some sort of statement here too. Winehouse is one of the greatest talents to emerge in this country for years. Every track in this album is quality. She has written and performed with passion and honesty. I tell you at this price this CD is a steal ...
