Dylan turned away from the psychedelic sounds of the summer of love with this offering, a lo-fi acoustic set filled with quiet & reflective tracks. Recorded in Woodstock around the same time as 'The Basement Tapes', it marks a new era for Dylan as he leaves his spectacular previous efforts behind, typically choosing to start again with the basics. 'All Along the Watchtower' is the most recognisable track here, & among the highlights, although there isn't a bad track here & the delivery is consummate throughout. Dylan stripped it down to just a 3 piece backing here, a world away from the ensembles on his 1965 & 1966 releases. The original ... Read the complete review

This is the first of Dylans' officical post-accident albums and is on a completely different planet compared to Blonde On Blonde, but don't let that put you off, this is a good album, and one that any Dylan fan should own. 1. John Wesley Harding - The title track, which is actually misspelt is one that Dyaln admits to never finishing and that is obvious from the reather abrupt finish, but this is a nice track that shows off Dylan's country style of writing. 2. You Had It Coming - Jeff Beck
Jeff Beck continuing to evolve.
What a poorly chosen direction.
The Silent Circus - Between The Buried And Me
Moving more towards a sound of their own, before it ultimately collapses.
Still too much being squeezed into each song, at significant cost to the enjoyment.
Situation Dangerous - Bozzio Levin Stevens
Past Times With Good Company - Blackmore's Night
More diverse than the studio albums, with less filler.
Songs extended for far too long, and Deep Purple fans perhaps leave even more annoyed than before.
The Physics Of Fire - Becoming the Archetype
Doesn't descend into screaming metalcore.
Progressive elements are now pretty dull, and most songs sound exactly the same.
Jeff - Jeff Beck
Techno rhythms have been toned down.
Hip hop and electronic elements still lead the way, and are rubbish.
Io Sono Nato Libero - Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso
Higher production values and continuation of the classical style.
Structural problems from the first album are back in full force, spoiling all songs to some extent.
Darwin - Banco del Mutuo Soccorso
Perfects the chamber prog style, and calms down some of the structural insanity.
Still only for hardcore prog fans.
Barrett - Syd Barrett
More stereotypical Barrett, stabilised by other musicians.
Less individual as a result.
Il Vuoto - Franco Battiao
Classical elements incorporated nicely.
Contrasting pop and electro elements in certain songs.
