This is one of my favourite Disney films, infact it might well have been the very first one that I saw, so it holds a firm place in my heart. This soundtrack CD gathers 21 songs from the movie.

'Colonel Hathi's March' has a militant feel about it, which will make you feel you are about to undergo army training. Deep and resonating voices from the elephants give the track some earthiness, it has some merits, but is not a strong start to the album.

Much better is the wonderful 'Bare Necessities' which is delivered by Baloo. It is comedic and lighthearted and the lyrics are actually very insightful. The song is great for kids to sing along to and works well at parties. On a similar keel is 'I Wanna Be Like You' which has a jaunty rhythm and will literally have you leaping around like a monkey!

'Trust in Me (The Python's Song)' is sufficiently creepy, as the snake slithers around the song with a sneering tongue. I would probably play this while slinking around the house in the dark. Lovely evil tones come through and it provides a stark contrast to the jolly tracks before it.

That's What Friends Are For (The Vulture Song)' has a Barbershop feel about it and you are taken back to the doo wopping era with some delightful harmonies and rousing lyrics.

The album is given extra weight thanks to some bonus material. A couple of demo recordings are added to the end of the CD and will please Disney enthusiasts. The disc might not stand up to being played over and over, but it is a treat to dip into if you are feeling in a party mood, or just want a break from Kings Of Leon or Lady Gaga. There is also some cute cover artwork to round off the package.
