They don't come much old-school-ier... certainly not in 1998, anyways. It was a reaction to the prevalent darkness and violence of much contemporary hip-hop, and unsuprisingly, it was the kind of thing which found favour with a whole spectrum of fringe hip-hop fans: the danceheads, the popsters, the indiekids. High points are the rubbery funk of "Jayou", or "Improvise", with its energetic, intricate freestyling. "In The Flesh" provides a lolloping groove, and "Lesson 6: The Lecture" is a real samplology workout - but is the best example of how this album keeps its sights fixed firmly on the past. ... Although condensing some of the best of features of hip-hop over its twenty-year lifetime into one package, Jurassic 5 have created an album that is accessible both to dedicated followers of hip-hop as well as the enlightened lay person. The key elements of the Jurassic style is the tight, although free flowing, four-part MCing which is perfectly accompanied by the talents of the formidable turntablist duo, DJ Nu-Mark and Cut Chemist. Underneath the catchy melodies lie lyrics addressing many of the ills of modern society but pleasantly, without the need to resort to anger or obscenities (much!). The Jurassic 5 LP is was the first full length LP from Jurassic 5. Extended from the original Jurassic 5 EP, this album is a blend of classic old school hip hop tracks including intrumental beats and superb mixing from DJ Nu-Mark. Jurassic 5 (or J5) consists of 6 members (4 emcees, 2 producers). Together they have produced an all time classic old school LP. When you listen to the production of this album you can tell that alot of effort has been put into it, so it actually sounds like an original old school album should. My personal favourite tracks are Jayou, Concrete Schoolyard, Improvise and Without a doubt. Compared to their second LP ... Read the complete review

My advice for all lovers of hip hop is: go out and buy the ep. Now. If you have any money left over, buy 'Quality Control' as well, but dont break the bank or your hopes won't be fulfilled. Jurassic 5 are compiled of three MCs and two master DJs. Their true skill is displayed in tracks such as 'The Lesson' and the listener is left with the question - just where did they get those samples!! They have an old school style which is fresh and funky, very reminiscent of De La Soul's early days, the better ones for those who aren't yet fans. I bought this album and all my friends wanted to borrow it. I had to make myself an extra copy ... Read the complete review

11 - Bryan Adams
Some excellent rock ballads are present on this album. Powerful vocals throughout.
Bryan Adams has recorded better albums than this.
