... Victoria Gardens. It also has some great songs here that are fantastic, such as the really upbeat Waltz into Mischeif, Prospects and Turning Blue. I would rank it probably joint 2nd (with Mad Not Mad) in the 6 original albums, as it is very much in the Madness mould, and their distinctive style shines through. It is also a pleasure to listen to, and you won't find yourself skipping many tracks on this one. For any fan, casual and serious to have in their collection. ...more

This album never did that well in the charts which is a real pity as it ranks as one of Madness's best albums, this album was made under the shadow of the founder member Mike Barson's(keyboard & piano player)player shock decision to leave the band. Aside from the singles, Michael Caine, and The sun and the rain this album, had many other contenders for singles, one being Victoria Gardens (one word describes this... MAJESTIC) with all of its brass sections, and poignant lyrics, about the berevity of fame. My fave without a doubt though has to be, Prospects, this song reminds me of The Beatles, in their Sgt Pepper era, for some reason, well I think ...

Brilliant sound, perfect pop songs, wonderful harmonies some of the rhymes

Could be used as background music. No musical ability whatsoever is displayed here, the album is despicably tedious.

Slick, coherent songs, good musicianship and tight production Lyrically feel immature at times or lacking depth
