Advantages: all her hits
Disadvantages: dirrty
Not one of my preferred singers, given the choice of Britney over her, I would possibly plump for Britney, though Christina or Xtina, as some people prefer to bill her, is alright in small controlled doses. Let us inspect this so called decade of hits!
'Genie In A Bottle' brings back some fond memories of when she was all sweet and innocent. A cleverly crafted pop song which plays with a hint of r and b while retaining a pop edge. It is a solid start. 'What A Girl Wants' is quite appetising, with a chunky chorus and some good little hooks to latch onto.
I quite enjoy the breathy vocals on 'Nobody Wants To Be Lonely' which benefits from a rousing turn from Ricky Martin. The two work well together and the song builds really well. It is a shame she didn't do more duets. I would have loved one with Tom Jones.
Loads of people love 'Dirrty' but I loathe it. The song is way too risque and despite the song being called dirty, it just plays out like some seedy back alley sort of nightclub scene. Her vocals are too shouty and the song boasts way too much pseudo sex appeal, I do not like it and I also find the video foul.
'Beatiful' is a well composed song, but let down by Xtina needing to turn each note into about twenty notes. This warbling begins to grate two minutes into the track, so it is one I choose to skip.
'Candyman' is more fun with a jolly romping chorus and plenty of bravado. She seems to be letting her hair down here and the song returns her to her poppier roots.
The good news is that there are 17 songs included and you do get all her hits, right up to 'Keeps Gettin' Better'. I don't get the cover artwork though, where Xtina has her head in a goldfish bowl.
Summary: naughty pop
