Advantages: sing-a-long lyrics, catchy riffs, upbeat
Disadvantages: There are none! This album rocks!
This album is the greatest thing i have ever heard! And its still my favourite all these years later. Kerbdog were a 3 piece Irish rock band. A fantastic mix of great melody, energetic catchy riffs, and sing a long choruses mean this album has a wide appeal and a great summer-y feel to it. And it brings back happy memories of being in love... ahhh :)The album is a truely original peice of work, and unfortunatly Wilt's album (the band that emerged from the reckage of Kerbdog's split)just didnt match up to this fantastic standard. The opening 'sally' (a v.rare single id love to get my hands on!) sets the pace of the album. Perfect dynamics mix quiet sections where the vocals shine through over a simple drum and guitar line, with lively roaring choruses. With the simple lyrics and catchy tunes you'l be singing and dancing along in no time.'JJ's Song' continues in the same style. Snappy, original guitar sections add interest and vary the sound. Builds up to a stunning end.'Didn't Event try' plunges into another cracking song, and like all the other tracks belts along nicely, perfect for moshing. 'Mexican Wave' is the masterpiece of the album (another rare single, but i got this one!!) Starts slowly with a relentless tune that slips easily into another all powerful chorus. A cresendo is built up slowly and to great effect. This is the perfect song, in my opinion - the lyrics fit perfectly, and with great harmonies. 'Severed' seems darker than the other tracks so far. The guitars form a low rumble and the vocals seem to snarl and accuse. Regardless, it is still catchy and powerful. An original twist near the end changes the course of the tune entirely, before returning to the original start. 'Pledge' is energetic and begins more cheerfully. Flips unexpectedly between an upbeat and a more depressing style, but always returns to an upbeat chorus typical of kerbdog. The
vocals remain quite snarling, but fit the powerful nature of the track. 'On the turn' touches the darker side of Kerbdog. It takes a little longer to launch in to the song itself, but entertaining riffs hold interest to the most intense track of the album. The emotionally powerful lyrics work well with the style and on this track the vocals reveal desperation. The chorus jumps to a more upbeat style momenterily, and variation such as this and the bridge emphasise the powerful impact of this song. 'Secure' slows the pace somewhat, but maintains the power of the vocals, and the finese of the band is shown in their ability to perfectly blend quiet, down moments with loud, more upbeat sections harmoniously on tracks like this. 'Lesser Shelf' opens with a energetic rapid bass and guitar section that gives way to another simple yet powerful chorus. 'Pointless' maintains this idea and continues in the same style. 'Rewind' starts with a punky riff section, then calms in the verse, simple retetition is used to great effect, culminating in another all powerful chorus. The last track 'Sorry for the record' is downbeat and cools off the album nicely, trailing into an endless feedback before repeating the opening lines of 'Sally'. A new relaxed style opens this one, and shows how elegantly they blend different styles, and achieve drama in a quiet tune. A delightful culmination to a great album. Go out and buy it - i promise you wont be disapointed.
