Advantages: It's a remix album...Some of the remixes are a bit pointless or boring

Disadvantages: Hearing Mogwai songs in a different light, sometimes even better than the originals; good remixers, and an absence of Fatboy Slim...

After the release of 'Young Team', (and before the release of 'Come On Die Young'), the band hooked up with dance label Eye Q for the one and only remix project on their songs that they promised that they would ever commision themselves too, and even though Mogwai aren't really a part of it (just the originals); credit goes to the majority of the artists who remixed Scotland's finest from the 'Young Team' and 'Ten Rapid' albums.
I won't go through all the artists but the best remixes here are Hood's calm 'Like Herod' mix, and Max Tundra's partly mad 'Helicon 2' mix. Chemikal Underground label mates Arab Strap also mix a Moggy compilation entitled 'Gwai On 45' which is an interesting experiment, as is the Third Eye Foundation's thick-like-sludge remix of a 'A Cheery Wave...'. Mogwai's remix of themselves is almost a pointless task, as is Alec (Atari Teenage Riot) Empire's laughable microwave mess of 'Like Herod', which is still nice, in a weird-art kind of way. Surgeon's remix of 'Mogwai Fear Satan' is hardly a remix, just a spacey drone...which is er,...interesting. The most beautiful remix here though has to be Kid Loco's version of 'Tracy' which has been revamped into a soothing beat orientated painkiller to a few of the other, shall we say, original remixes. These are good and/or interesting remixes, but unless you're a Mogwai fan, and a big one, don't bother with this. It's just an interesting experiment of seeing how Mogwai can be interpreted by others, without releasing a cheesy covers album by dodgy artists.
