It was my daughter's fifth birthday a couple of weeks ago and the night before her party I was searching our CD collection to see what music we had that would be suitable for party games and general dancing fun. Nothing jumped out at me and as I was going to be nipping down to Sainsburys for some last minute bits I thought I would take a look through their CDs.
I couldn't believe it when I saw a single copy of 'Kids Summer Party' especially as it was priced at only 97 pence. At that price it wouldn't matter if we only used it once and never listened to it again. As it happens though, since that first play it has become one of my daughters' favourite CDs and they are forever putting it on to dance to!
Now I'm sure you're wondering what is this great music that needs so many plays. Well, probably for the more mature music listeners among you, the mention of some of the following titles will have you running for some ear phones to block out the noise. You have to remember though that my daughters are only five and three and that age you would think that this CD was great too!
OK so here's are some of the sixteen tracks and what a lively jaunty collection they make - really suitable for a birthday party! The following are just a few of the tracks on the CD but I'm sure you will get the general idea:
Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini
The Birdie Song
The Cheeky Song
Can we fix it
Now it does not say who is performing all these songs but I'm pretty sure they are not the original artists - which you could argue in the case of some of them is no bad thing at all!
The great thing for young children though is that there are lots of movements and actions for them to do. When I first got home and showed my husband my fantastic bargain purchase I could soon see that he was visibly horrified but then the next morning he was there teaching our girls all the moves he could remember! And if he couldn't remember them, he found some very good video clips on YouTube to help him!
The CD really was a great hit at Rachel's party and we had a dozen little girls and boys all performing the moves to Superman, The Birdie Song and the out and out favourite - YMCA. My youngest daughter has really taken a shine to the Barbie Girl and Cheeky songs and now goes around all the time singing:
'I'm a Barbie Girl
In a Cheeky World!'
or something like that!
Overall this CD is fun! Perhaps it does not include the most musically acclaimed tunes of all time but it does provide a wonderful party atmosphere and I would definitely recommend it for a kids' party especially if you can pick it up at such a bargain price! If not though it can be bought on Amazon for £4.70.
