Epitome of Thrash metal (Kill 'em All - Metallica)
Member Name: Nihilus
Advantages: Had given birth to an entire style Disadvantages: The songwriting is a bit limited for Metallica, but who really cares, it compensates with power And at the year 1983, thrash metal was born. Yeah, I know of Slayer's Show no Mercy and the other bands but the first record to really display thrash metal as it would develop in the upcoming years was this unrelenting assault to our ears by this totally unknown then american band. This music is mostly comprised of furious fast power chords not really far away from the blues tradition, the typical one bass drum one snare drumming from Ulrich and the probably premature screaming vocals of Hedfield, who had only begun to develop his style at the time. This album is essentially the creation of a band who loved the raw punk energy of acts like Sex Pistols and Exploited at the same time with the songwriting and riffing of Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, something totally unheard at the time. While it is truth that the great musical masterpieces of the band came later, this album has nothing to fear: it shall stand forever as one of the most poweful albums of all time. Summary: First thrash metal record ever, and still one of the finest |
