Advantages: Pulling Teeth, Seek and Destroy

Disadvantages: The cheese, the hair, the leather and the bad, bad songs

I suppose everyone had to start somewhere, unfortunately Metallica chose to start here. Well, perhaps that’s a bit harsh, while not being particularly great, Kill ‘em All is not particularly bad either. (Anesthesia) – Pulling Teeth is a great, if somewhat bizarre, solo by bass player Cliff Burton and even way back in ’83 Seek & Destroy was a classic. Unfortunately most of the other songs have aged quite poorly, especially compared to some of the tracks on Master of Puppets and Ride The Lightning. Tracks like Hit the Lights, Phantom Lord, Jump in the Fire and The Four Horsemen have degenerated into poor eighties hairy metal, burying the few good tracks under piles of cheese, cliché, hair and leather.

Overall this is an album that will only be of interest to Metallica obsessives or people who are just plain curious about how the band who sued Napster started off – make this the last Metallica album you buy, get the others first, even Reload!

I think you are a little harsh, for 1981 this is a rocking album, and alongside other albums of the time, it's aged quite well. I feel a re-mastered version would sound better, as the production isn't great. I agree with your point of buying it last, but not after Re-load! What is Re-load all about? One last thing.. look at the photo on the cover, they're kids... therefore you have to be impressed really

I agree that it has definitely aged more than their later albums, but hey, that's what it was all about back then :) and they probably all still under 20 at that point (judging by the photo on the back)
