Advantages: Banging first album, specially for 1981
Disadvantages: hasn't aged as well as others
Kill Em All, Metallicas first proper album, is all about one thing, to make a point to the other big bands of the time, that they're harder and faster than any one else. The best tracks are probably the Four Horsemen or Seek and destroy, which are still popular. This album is possibly one of the less popular of them, because people tend to buy it after albums like Black (Metallica Metallica) and find it totally different and it often works itself to the bottom of the CD pile. Baring in mind their age at the time, (they look about 16-18 on the cover, the music is mighty impressive, although far less polished than later stuff, and the production quality is worse than other albums. Kill Em All is generally much cheaper than other albums, usually close to the £10 mark, rather than £15+ for the others. I think it's very good for a first album, and although it has indeniably aged, it has aged better than most music of the time, and still sounds good. This is after all where masterpieces like 'Puppets' & 'And Justice for All' stemmed from, and it still rocks like a good 'un 20 years on. By no means their worst, the title of that crown would have to be Reload, an album I'm still trying to get my head round!
