'Kill Uncle' was and is widely criticised as some of Morrissey's poorest work. Following his first solo album 'Viva Hate', 'Kill Uncle' takes a different approach and is very much more quirky in sound. To me, in this stage of his career Morrissey was wanting to push a bit further into a rockabilly style but the musicians he had at the time of writing this album didn't really fit that. This was proved when he met the band which produced 'Your Arsenal', very much a rockabilly inspired effort. That same band took 'Kill Uncle' tracks on the live stage and brought them to life, the way I feel Morrissey wanted them to be like. What we are left with is a collection of ... Morrissey's second studio album was first released in 1991 and written with guitarist Mark Nevin. The album recieved something of a battering from the critics and is widely regarded to be one of the more insubstantial and uninspired records from the singer. Morrissey fans have been reasonably kind to the album though and a sense that it was a bit underrated at the time has developed in recent years. Kill Uncle was regarded as a bit lightweight and is only 33 minutes long. The album does though repay a few repeat listens and isn't as bad as its reputation suggests.
