... one of the album's two extended pieces and is the musicians showcase with changing parts/slowing down/speeding up/false endings and drum solos. It could be seen as 'progressive rock' like, but ends up being more interesting than much of the music in that genre through its originality. 'Desperado' is a co-write between Alice Cooper and Michael Bruce and lays down Cooper's persona well as he sings: 'I'm a Killer....I'm a Clown'. Another great song. The first throwaway track is 'You Drive Me Nervous', which is great ro...more

Track Listing: 1. Under My Wheels 2. Be My Lover 3. Halo Of Flies 4. Desperado 5. You Drive Me Nervous 6. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah 7. Dead Babies 8. Killer Produced by Bob Ezrin Recorded in 1971, 'Killer' is my favourite of Alice Cooper's early classic albums. Critics seem divided as to whether 'Love It To Death', 'School's Out' or 'Billion Dollar Babies' is the best one, and this one often gets forgotten about which is a shame as its really good. Track one, 'Under My Wheels' is a great rock n roll opener, written by guitarist Michael Bruce, Bass player Dennis Dunaway and Producer Bob Ezrin. This was ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Classic ALICE COOPER (161 words)

Alice Cooper's second release of 1971, KILLER, helped solidify the band's position as rocks most notorious, shocking, violent, sleazy and theatrical band of the day. This, their fourth studio album also helped to raise the bands profile and notoriety with a handful of prime cuts including the anthemic Under My Wheels, the classic ballad Be My Lover and the controversial child abuse themed Dead Babies which is still as delightfully shocking to this day (especially when performed live when Alice usually ends up hacking a plastic baby doll to bits). Halo of Flies is also a classic track which introduced the use of keyboard into the Alice Cooper ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

Alice Cooper's Killer album was the band's 4th album released in 1971, quickly after Love It to Death. Johnny Rotten said that it is "the best rock n roll album of all time" and whilst that is a big title, I'd be inclined to agree with him to some extent. There is a bit of everything in this album - short catchy hits turned into classics like "Under My Wheels", "Be My Lover", more moving pieces like "Desperado" a track supposedly about close friend Jim Morrison, a epic progressive rock track that tells a story "Halo of Flies" and my personal favourite the dark ballad "Dead Babies", a song which ...  Read the complete review
