"Went to a dance inna Greenwich Farm, King Tubbys and the dreads were there" so begins the track "Dancing Version" before launching into King Tubby's trademark bass and drum.

King Tubby (a.k.a Osbourne Ruddock) single handedly invented dub. An electronics genius, he ran his sound system, "King Tubby's" from the late 60's branched in studio production. He realised that by turning his electronics expertise to music he could manipulate the sounds in weird and wonderful ways, cutting "versions" of popular tunes of the days. He would add echo and drop the vocals and instruments creating whole new tracks out of existing songs, effectively playing the mixing board like a musical instrument. Tubby was basically the first remixer. Anyway, enough of the history...whats the album like?

Fantastic. Its a great collection from Tubby's 70's heyday. What makes this album particularly good is that the material he gets to work with is of top a top quality standard. We have classic cuts by the likes of Horce Andy and John Holt ("Skylarking" and "Ali Baba") that have been dubbed up fine style.

If you want to get into dub this is a great place to start, introducing one of the legends in this field, and if you're already into it you should have this album...cos the tunes are wicked!
