... reminds me of seventies things I dislike. Not including these, these are okay. This is quite a short track. 3. LADIES? ROOM Some light banter on the subject of pretty ladies leads into another pretty unimaginative track, but again quite a catchy one, vocals being handled primarily by Gene. Again this sounds exactly the same in terms of structure and guitars to many other bands ...more

Crowned Review Alive II - Kiss: Men in Make Up (2197 words)

Rating:

In the seventies it was okay for men to wear make-up, and most of them did. Kiss? make-up was based on a flimsy and pretty unnecessary system of keeping the universe in harmony: * Bass player and alternate vocalist Gene Simmons? demonic make-up represented the evil elements of the world, and this automatically made him the cool member who male fans liked best and wanted to be exactly like, although probably less obese. * Main vocalist and rhythm guitar player Paul Stanley?s star-painted eye represented the infinity of space, and probably secretly indicated how good he felt his sustained wails were in comparison to its ...  Read the complete review

1977 - the height of Kissteria in the US and the year of release of the second live KISS album. After the success of 'Alive', I guess they felt the time was right to release a second volume that captured the raw energy of the latest KISS experience that was the Love Gun Tour. This includes a stunning array of classic tracks, mainly from the 'Love Gun', 'Rock n' Roll Over' and 'Destroyer' albums. Side one is probably my favourite with 5 excellent tracks. Opening with 'Detroit Rock City' leading into 'King of the Night Time World, 'Ladies Room', 'Makin' Love' and 'Love Gun' - What ...  Read the complete review

Fun beats, differnt to anything else out there will offend some people

Back on form, Classic tracks in front of a 250,000-strong crowd, Also available on DVD Three guitarists is a little crowded sometimesDoesn't represent some of the best materialLong song groupings get tedious

Def Leppard's coming of age album, pefectly polished Probably not to be topped again by the band.

The Sane Asylum - Blind Illusion
One of the finest and most interesting thrash performances of the eighties. Vocals are the weakest aspect, and the band never recorded anything else.

Sounds Of The Animal Kingdom - Brutal Truth
Fast. Little substance.

Seventeen Seconds - The Cure
A couple of the songs don't stink... um... Robert Smith was trying to be clever in his sparse instrumental arrangements and it back-fired!

Sacrifice - Black Widow
Early occult prog, with a fun gimmick if nothing else. Some experiments are less successful than others, particularly the chanting to Satan.

Perspective - Jason Becker
More Jason Becker material, in spite of his condition. Some experiments are less successful.

Goodbye Cruel World: Live & Rare Tracks - Brutal Truth
Heavy Metal - 1999

Bleed The Grey Sky Black - Bella Morte
Modern gothic rock that everyone can enjoy, even pretentious bigots like me. Lighter and poppier songs are disappointing compared to the more experimental offerings.

Blackberry Jams - Jason Becker
Some more material unearthed from Becker's all-too-brief musical career. Even less consistent than the previous collection.

Bestial - Black Cobra
Highly talented sludge doom from a two-man-band. Later songs make strange use of silence, which only gets in the way, but can presumably be skipped.

H418ov21.c - Beherit
Each song attempts something different. Each song is an abominable waste of time.
