Advantages: Gutsier versions of wimpy studio songs

Disadvantages: A little dated

After producing 3 studio albums of differing quality and sales not entirely eart-shattering, Kiss decided that the best way for people to enjoy their music was to let them hear the live versions, as their concerts were always more popular than vinyl.

The Alive! album single-handedly pulled Kiss (and their record company Casablanca) out of the red and very much into the black, as people could not get enough of this double-platter effort.

Listening to it now, it is a little tame, but still rocks with their other releases. Tracks such as 'C'mon and Love Me' take on a whole new sound, going from the ever-so-wimpy vocals on the studio version to some raucously loud rendition here.

Of course the main highlights on the album are '100,000 Years' for the simply blinding drum solo Peter does and 'Rock and Roll All Nite', the anthem which has been on more compilations than I care to name!

Great stuff!
