fab - if you like Piaf

I was totally gobsmacked to see Dooyoo had popped Edith Piaf in the 'easy listening' genre - if you like 'la mome' then you'll know her songs are full of tragic experiences, woe, despair & grief - but I love her!

Maybe it's my French blood but everytime I hear Piaf my hairs stand on end as her voice is so raw & emotional - I love her!

For those of you not familiar with 'the little sparrow' you may have seen the Specsavers advert where she was singing probably her most famous song 'je ne regrette rien'? Thankfully, due to numerous complaints, this ad was taken off TV as it was said to be disrespectful to her.

It amazes me how such a powerful voice came out of this tiny lady's mouth yet appreciate that the songs may not appeal to everyone. As a child she lived either in poor housing or on the streets in Paris & performed with her father who was a street entertainer. Her experiences of this & her later hard yet eventful life is contained in the songs (many of which she wrote herself or collaborated with people such as Charles Aznavour etc).

This CD is available for £6.68 from Amazon & was produced in 1966 - I think it has a really good mix of many of her famous songs - I won't list all 24 of them but just to give you an idea -

      - la vie en rose
      - padam padam
      - la chanson de Catherine
      - mon manage a moi
      - milord
      & of course,
      - je ne regrette rien

If you like music with passion & raw emotion then I'd have to recommend listening to this but if you like happy & uplifting music then it's most likely not for you.

      summary
      ~
      - may not be to everyone's taste but I think this is a great choice of Edith Piaf's songs.
      - don't listen to it if you're feeling depressed!
