... ============== This is definitely a favourite tune of mine as is the remix hidden after the last track on the album (see below). Andy really shows off his drum programming skills here with a varied, stuttering drum n bass beat that bangs its way into your skull whilst Lou sings soothingly: "You could stay here Make your home here Hideaway here I could wrap you up in cotton wool." 4. Trans Fatty Acid 7:36 ================= This is a dark, grimy trip-hop track with a menacing electronic bass. It works we...more

Premium Review Lamb - Lamb: This "Lamb" doesn't go baa! (1073 words)

Rating:

Lamb is a duo consisting of producer/drum programmer Andy Barlow and singer/songwriter Lou Rhodes. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1996, is filled with electronic sounds occasionally contrasted with acoustic instruments, some thumping drum n bass beats and a few stand-out tunes. Lou does not have the strongest vocals and the melodies are frequently sparse or neglected resulting in a number of tracks failing to really grip the listener; however when the album shines, it really shines. Here is a rundown of each tune: 1. Lusty 4:09 ========== The album gets off to a good start with this slow paced drum n bass number as a ...  Read the complete review

Oooh baby, how much do I love this record? Maybe a little too much. Its almost enough to make you pawn your legs just to buy more copies, just in case yours is lost, damaged, stolen by gangs of evil monkeys hell bent on ruining my......sorry, I am taking medication. I think its time to just lie back and enjoy the supremely funky beats and the unbelievably smooth sultry vocals by Louise Rhodes. Why, she is just the sweetest little thang! She is teamed up with Andy Barlow who has a passion for all things with a beat like fifteen monkeys in a skip! His love of techno and drum ‘n’ bass provides that all-important urge to, ahem, ….get down. Unlike ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Lamb - Lamb: Baaa? (1021 words)

Lamb is a little known gem in the world of alternative music groups. The best way to describe their music would be to compare them to the likes of such groups as massive attack, though they aren’t as deep and Moody as that. The first thing I’d like to mention is that the group consists of 2 people, none of that modern pop group stuff with 4 or 5 members. It simply consists of one bloke who does the music, and one lady who does the vocals. The music is quite trippy and ambient, and varies greatly from track to track and album to album. The vocals are beautiful. I have to say this, though it isn’t intended as an insult. The vocals are a ...  Read the complete review
