Advantages: Some great songs
Disadvantages: Some fillers
Stereophonics released this album 'Language, sex, violence, other?' back in 2005. It was their 5th studio album. I was a huge fan of their first two albums and have seen them live three times, they were always excellent. Their 3rd and 4th albums were very disapointing for me, not as rock as their first two and lacking that drive. So how does this one compare?
Well here is what I think of each song:
1. Superman - Excellent opening. A really good return to form from the band. Big riffs, powerful lyrics and a great tempo. Nice start. 9/10
2. Doorman - Another very upbeat song, almost to upbeat. Fast pace and fast lyircs, but just lacks the class of some of their songs. 7/10
3. Brother - Nice intro and then Kelly just starts whining. Not the best song, but still worth a listen. 7/10
4. Devil - Another very good song. Some clever words and a really good sound to this song. This is one they released and you can see why. 9/10
5. Dakota - Stand out song on the album. Something a bit special here, it just sounds so fresh and new. An excellent song that I really enjoy. 10/10
6. Rewind - This one is a little slower than the other songs. It's got a really good strongs sound to it though. And some thought provoking lyrics make it a good offering. 9/10
7. Pedal Pusher - This one is not up to the standard of the previous few. It just sounds poor. 6/10
8. Girl - Quite a fast upbeat song, not a bad offering but again is just missing something. 7/10
9. Lolite - A strange little intro before the song begins. But it's a good song, not as heavy as some, some classic stereophonics sounds and an excellent vocal performance from kelly. 8/10
10. Deadhead - Fast and angry. A good song that really drives the emotions. I like the way the lyrics flow in the chorus and it all just goes together well. 8/10
11. Feel - Can they finish big? No! This is a weary song that lacks anything worth mentioning really. Poor finish to the album. 6/10
So overall a good album, but not a great album. Some very good songs, but also some average ones that are just not good enough. And you kind of get the feeling maybe the band are starting to run out of ideas by this stage.
Overall it gets an 8/10
Summary: A decent album that is worth a listen

- 17/06/09 'Local Boy In The Photograph' will always be a cracking song, but they simply cannot be forgiven for the way they went all 'Rod Stewart In Couldn't Give A Toss Mode'. |
