Advantages: Some classy tracks

Las Vegas Grind Part 1 is a cool compilation of songs which were common either live or recorded in the Las Vegas strip joints between 1956 and 1965, it's part of a 4 volume series, I've only checked out the first 2 parts so far. This is an interesting journey through a mixture of doo wop and garage, often poorly recording but surprisingly fresh, the majority of these tracks were deemed far too naughty for commercial release so the scratchy sounds of the 45's give off a poor overall recording and it seems like this compilation has done nothing to try and clean them up.

The songs range from extremely catchy (both melody and lyrically) tracks through to one or two repetitive and tedious numbers with a focus on what the listener can only describe as sex noises (although I'm sure Caroline Cartwright's neighbours are more versed in this topic).

This album is definitely worth having though because I feel a lot of the songs have a style that is totally unrecognisable to its cleaner counterparts of the time, there's a lot of quirky stuff going on from booming deep vocals on some tracks which sound like a monster through to some awesome gritty guitar solos which wouldn't sound out of place in garage music of the late 60s.

Even now some of the songs stand out as a bit wayward lyrically!
