Advantages: Good relaxing music.
Disadvantages: Slightly dated.
For those of us that did our serious growing-up in the 1970’s then many of the tracks on this album will hold memories of people or places of that time. Neil Sedaka had many great hits in the early 1960’s but then spent about ten years purely on song writing. In 1972 Sedaka re-launched his singing career and through the rest of the 70’s had hit after hit. This album is a collection of those hits, the majority of which most people will recognise straight away as many of these songs are still played over and over again today. Many of these tracks have been covered by other artists and it often surprises people at how many songs Sedaka has written. Many of his songs have been hits for other artists, such as “Love will keep us together” which was a big hit for Captain and Tennille; and Solitaire which was a hit for both The Carpenters and Andy Williams. Although all of the tracks have that “Sedaka” feel about them, there are many different styles on this album. “Standing on the Inside” has a real country feel to it, whereas I am sure a few tears have been shed over “Breaking up is hard to do”. “Solitaire” must be one of the classic slow dancing records for many a party or wedding reception; then there is the funky track “The queen of 1964”. This is the type of album that plays nicely in the background when you have visitors, a nice little collection of easy to listen to tracks. Some of best and most famous songs written and performed by Neil Sedaka.
