Advantages: More of the same, if you enjoyed it.

Disadvantages: More of the same, if you didn't.

Hammerfall's second album is structurally, ideologically and sonically identical to its predecessor, but is slightly less impressive for failing to be as much fun. Continuing with an irrational lyrical preoccupation with hammers that's comparable to Ronnie James Dio's obsession with rainbows, this is by-the-numbers power metal that forsakes extraneous elements such as orchestration and keyboard work, but fails to live up to its obvious influences in 1980s heavy metal.

'Heeding the Call' has a good guitar riff and some nice unison vocal work in the chorus that isn't overdone, but the main song sounds weak thanks to the squeaking vocals of Joacim Cans. The ballads 'Remember Yesterday' and 'The Fallen One' are both very weak and ever so predictable, even down to their unimaginative positions bisecting the album, and it's only as late as the Pretty Maids cover 'Back to Back' that the speed finally increases to that of the previous album.

1. Heeding the Call
2. Legacy of Kings
3. Let the Hammer Fall
4. Dreamland
5. Remember Yesterday
6. At the End of the Rainbow
7. Back to Back (Pretty Maids cover)
8. Stronger Than All
9. Warriors of Faith
10. The Fallen One

Summary: Hammerfall's second album (1998).
