Formed in Florida in 2005, Mayday Parade are a pop-punk band who have released two albums ('A Lesson In Romantics' 2007, and 'Anywhere But Here' 2009) as well as one EP ('Tales Told By Dead Friends' 2006). They have released 4 singles, 3 of which are on this album. They have also appeared in a few compilation CD's. Mayday Parade consist of: Derek Sanders - lead vocals, keyboard Jeremy Lenzo - bass guitar, backing vocals Alex Garcia - lead guitar Brooks Betts - rhythm guitar Jake Bundrick - drums, percussion, backing vocals Henry Smith - lead guitar This is their first studio album, and I really like it. It's a similar genre, but better than All Time Low, and if you like them, I'd recommend listening to this. 1. Jamie All Over A good first song, with strong lead vocals and a nice guitar riff. Good drumming too, especially in the build up to the chorus, which is very catchy. 2. Black Cat Another good start with good vocals, and nice lyrics, but the best thing about this song is the chorus again, the chorus is catchier than in the last song, with great lead and backing vocals and catchy guitar 3. When I Get Home, You're So Dead Perhaps the most popular song on the album, which I used to love, but I've heard it too many times now, so I've become slightly bored of it, but I still really like it. Another catchy chorus with great guitar 4. Jersey Once again, nice vocals at the beginning, followed by an amazing guitar riff with rhythmic drumming. The drumming is perhaps one of the best things about this song. Another great song. 5. If You Wanted A Song Written About You, All You Had To Do Was Ask This song starts with just vocals, bass guitar and drums, which is a little change, but keeps you interested in the album. It's then joined by catchy guitar again, and a slower chorus this time, but still very nice. 6. Miserable At Best You can tell this is gonna be a slow one from the title. It starts with just vocals and piano, which is good, but perhaps slightly boring. It's then joined by another singer, and they sing well together. This isn't my favourite song on the album, but a friend of mine loves this song, so there's no saying that you won't 7. Walk On Water Or Drown A great name for a song is accompanied by a great song, which comes straight in with all the instruments, then slows down a little for the vocals. It then picks up again, especially by the chorus, which again, I love. Excellent, catchy song, once again. 8. Ocean And Atlantic Not my favourite song. I like it, but it's not the best. Not quite as catchy as some of the other songs, but still pretty good. The chorus is once again very good. 9. I'd Hate To Be You When People Find Out What This Song Is About Another good song name, with a good song. The guitar sound in this song is stunning, and the tune it plays is amazing too. The guitar definitely makes this song what it is, I love it. A brilliant, laid back, chilled out, awesome song, with another great chorus 10. Take This To Heart This might be my favourite, once again because of the guitar sound. A stunning riff at the beginning, joined by beautiful vocals. This song is one of my favourite songs ever, absolutely awesome. There's not much else to say about it, I'd definitely recommend listening to it. 11. Champagne's For Celebrating (I'll Have A Martini) Another cool song name, with great lyrics. Although this song is a bit slower, I still love it. Everything about it is great, another well written song from an amazing band. 12. You Be The Anchor That Keeps My Feet On The Ground The last song on the album starts off with a quiet guitar and vocals. The backing vocals in this song come before the lead vocals, which is cool. The vocals are the best song about this song. It picks up as it goes through the song, which is good, and it gets better as it goes through. An amazing album, if you like pop-punk and haven't heard of Mayday Parade, you should definitely listen to the songs I have recommended above straight away! Happy listening.
Mayday Parade are a 5-peice alternative rock(/emo, pop punk etc) band from Florida, consisting of guitars (both electric clean and distorted and acoustic) bass, drums and vocals. Their album A Lesson In Romantics was released in 2007. I purchased this album from my local store as I had heard a few samples on their myspace website. 1. Jamie All Over This song starts with a powerful vocal performance over the top of a simple distorted guitar riff. The first song I had ever heard from Mayday Parade. Like many of the albums songs, the chorus is very upbeat and catchy while easy to sing a long to! 2. Black Cat This is another upbeat song song with a lot of the guitar work played constantly on the beat repeatedly. The choruses have a lot of backing vocals, almost chanting like. 3. When I Get Home, You're So Dead A different start to the song with acoustic brings out the variety in the band but after only 15 seconds comes in a more heavy riff with the drums. 4. Jersey This starts more mellow for a mayday parade song starting with lead and backing vocals with just a basic beat kept on the drums, building into a slow build up into the main verse. 5. If You Wanted A Song Written About You I dont feel this is one of Mayday parades best songs. Starting off with just drums and a simple bass line I feel it doesnt really get anywhere and is only to pad the album out. B-grade material. 6. Miserable At Best Definately one of the most popular songs on the album as well as one of the saddest. The song is mainly a piano and vocal ballad. It can be quite deep but not cheesy like many other 'emo' songs. 7. Walk On Water Or Drown. I think this is just another song on the album which is B-grade material. Compared to the rest of the songs it doesnt really stand out in my opinion. 8. Ocean And Atlantic. Like the above, this doesnt stand out to me personally compared to some of the other tracks. 9. I'd Hate To Be You When People Find Out What This Song Is About This is my favourite song from the album. The start is a very powerful vocal peice which is then followed by a powerful guitar lick over drums and rhythm guitar. Whilst the guitar lick is only basic it is well written to suite the song. 10. Take This To Heart I cant honestly say I know the words to the verses to this song, but its a song where the chorus sticks strong in my head for a long time and I'll always see myself singing to it. 11. Champagnes For Celebrating. This has another catchy chorus, but apart from that I dont rate it as much as the rest of the album. 12. I'll Be The Wings That Keep Your Heart In The Clouds. Another favourite of mine on the album. The start has a great call and response vocal line from the lead and backing singers and a well produced double tracked lead line. I think this has some of the best lyrics too out of all of the songs. Overall there isnt much variety in this album. There is a piano ballad as well as a couple of slow songs mixed with the heavier, but most seem to be upbeat. Whilst some songs arent going to stick in your head the ones that do are worth it. Some very well written music.
I was introduced to mayday parade last winter by a friend of mine after my girlfriend split up with me (which kinda put some irony into the title of the album) Mayday parade certainly have that unique sound that most bands try and create. no song on the album uses similar riffs, and the vocal patterns are all unique. To me it is a very heart warming album, that is great to just come and listen to, especially on a cold, crappy day where you just wanna unwind. The track listing for this album is : 1. Jamie All Over 2. Black Cat 3. When I Get Home You're So Dead 4. Jersey 5. If You Wanted A Song Written About You All You Had To Do Was Ask 6. Miserable At Best 7. Walk On Water Or Drown 8. Ocean And Atlantic 9. I'd Hate To Be You When People Find Out What This Song Is About 10. Take This To Heart 11. Champagne's For Celebrating (I'll Have A Martini) 12. You Be The Anchor That Keeps My Feet On The Ground I'll Be The Wings That Keep Your Heart In The Closet 13. Three Cheers For Five Years 14. One Man Drinking Song it is a brilliant album well worth listening to, and i would definately reccomend it.
