Dead Prez
This isn’t so much an album as a political manifesto. As members of the Uhura political movement (taken from Nvota Uhura of Star Wars) Stickman an M1 oppose capitalism and lie the blame for the plight of the black people of America squarely at it’s feet. On a superficial level the album is slick; laid back vibes, neat twisting raps and cool funky beats. But behind their glossy raps and flowing rhymes, a stern political message is delivered with all the impact and fury of KRS1. As a hip hop album it excels, as a lesson in ‘alternative’ American history it's enlightening and for radical ideas, (check out their tirade against the school system) it’s an eye opener. For a debut album Lets Go is a masterpiece.
