Advantages: white flag
Disadvantages: dreary
I must admit, I have always found Dido about as interesting as grass (not very.) That said, her music is quite restful and her voice always manages to put me at ease, even the darkest of moments. This is her second release.
Who is she:
Dido is a multi Brit award winning singer and songwriter. At the peak of her fame at the turn of the century.
On this album:
The title track is a sombre affair with Dido turning in some heartfelt lyrics and a very mellow tune. It is an accessible song and finds her wafting her way through it with ease. She sings effortlessly and this always makes the tracks that extra bit calming.
Highlights:
I adore the stirring 'White Flag' which is quite a confusing song. I had to listen a few times to fully get what she was singing about. Dido is talking about not surrendering and not having a white flag at her door. It is meant to be her saying she will give in to being in love I think. The delightful 'Sand In My Shoe' is another choice pick, which is slightly more upbeat, but only marignally so. It has a summery melody and she sounds quite fresh and youthful here.
Weak Moments:
'Who Makes You Feel' was perhaps a step too far in the bleak direction and is not one I play often.
Overall:
Polished, moving and well delivered. Coffee table music with a conscience.
Summary: bleak yet stirring

- 18/02/09 I agree with what you're saying.
She is so bland. I bought this album and God did I feel like slitting my throat after the first 4 songs! *YAWN* |

- 17/02/09 Hideous woman with a hideous voice. I dont get why she became popular in the first place - with her forced froggy voice and dreary songs. |
