Jesu is the mellow offshoot of defunct but enormously influential Birmingham industrial band Godflesh, but the similarities are very few. The four songs on this moderate length E.P. all display a more accessible, soft and whimsical side to these performers than has ever been heard before, and while fans of Godflesh grit will likely be disappointed, this is a great little release for fans of upbeat post-rock in the style of Mogwai. Effective use is made of both male and female vocals, and the ambience is maintained by prominent keyboards that never become annoying, even when they threaten to usurp the other instruments.
