Madonna's second studio album was a vast improvement on her first & contains the following tracks:- 01) Material Girl: The second single to be released from the album was a UK number three hit & sounds very 80s in places. Madonna's vocals & still very "breathy", almost as if she's trying to ape Marilyn Monroe but it's a strong opening song. 02) Angel: This was the fourth UK single to be released, making number 5 in the chart. It's probably the weakest of the five singles to be released from the album but her voice sounds less "breathy" than it does on Material Girl. 03) Like A Virgin: The ... Read the complete review

I have reviewed a good many Madonna albums here now, and it never gets any easier you know. None of them are bad (although I was never fond of ‘I’m Breathless’) but how do you compare them all to each other??? This is not Madonna’s best effort, but it certainly made sure of her Superstar status, and it is pretty damn good. Released in 1984 on SIRE it spawned the hits ‘Like A Virgin’ and ‘Material Girl’ (which was from the film ‘Desperately Seeking Susan’). It is another ‘80s soundtrack’, tuneful, cheerful and great to sing along to whilst standing in front of the mirror with a hairbrush. Produced by ... Read the complete review

The cover is just priceless isn't it? Madonna draped out in that dress, looking like a right old minx. Of course, in these days she was all sweetness and innocence and was only just starting to explore her more dangerous side! Who is she: American singer, actress and all round megastar. Madonna is the world's biggest selling female artist. She had a brief marriage to Guy Ritchie before divorcing in 2008. Highlights: The magic of 'Material Girl' always gets me. The rhythm is just so addictive and fun and you want to start marching around to it, dressed to the nines in pearls and long flowing skirts. Her vocals are a little high ... Read the complete review

Yes this is classic Madonna at its finest. This album does feature perhaps my all time favourite Madonna song "Into The Groove". This is classic Madonna at her best when her songs were lively and full of dancing. I definitely like this album as her early songs were very lively and she knew how to sing, and hey still does know. This album is essential for any Madonna fan and for those who are not fans then this is still a great album to listen to. ... Read the complete review

Delayed for almost a year by the success of Madonna's debut album (as both were ready almost at the same time!), this her second album, was the first really big one and showed that this girl was not a one-hit wonder. The album was re-released in 1985 with the addition of 'Into The Groove' and remastered in 2001 with improved sound and extended remixes of 'Material Girl' and 'Like A Virgin', but minus 'Into The Groove. Material Girl is a vintage Madonna hit and drew comparisons with Cyndi Lauper because of the shrill voice used. The theme is materialism, but it is decidedly tongue-in-cheek (actually mocking materialism), a fact ... Read the complete review
