Advantages: into the groove
Disadvantages: just 10 songs
The cover is just priceless isn't it? Madonna draped out in that dress, looking like a right old minx. Of course, in these days she was all sweetness and innocence and was only just starting to explore her more dangerous side!
Who is she:
American singer, actress and all round megastar. Madonna is the world's biggest selling female artist. She had a brief marriage to Guy Ritchie before divorcing in 2008.
Highlights:
The magic of 'Material Girl' always gets me. The rhythm is just so addictive and fun and you want to start marching around to it, dressed to the nines in pearls and long flowing skirts. Her vocals are a little high pitched in parts but the nagging synth hook which plays in here will help disguise that. There isn't so much of a chorus, the song is just all one big verse really, well maybe there is a chorus, but there isn't much substance to it. Great tune though.
I am always dubious to air 'Like A Virgin' in front of people I know incase they get the wrong idea. The lyrics are naughty and her voice persuasive, calling you to come to bed with her. I could find many echoes of the works of William Blake buried deep inside these lyrics, though I wonder if Madonna intended that.
For something slower, dip into 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore' where her voice takes a more dramatic turn and she succeeds in conveying some true emotion.
The best song is 'Into The Groove' which just sums up the eighties in four minutes. Catchy, extravagent pop, a brilliant disco beat, over processed vocals and a sense of fun at every chord change. Remarkable.
Overall:
10 tracks, so many fine pop songs and just such a fun album.
Summary: super
