Amplified Heart - Everything But The Girl

Premium Review Amplify your Heart. (1164 words)
by bigbtommy - written on 31/10/01 (Very useful, 39 readings)
Rating:

Another slow guitar based track with whistling violin sounds and Tracey's really quite interesting vocal sounds. Slightly folky, slightly rocky, very great. 6. Missing Say Everything But the Girl and you'll pretty much hear the word Missing from everybody. It's their last major hit and was remixed (on track 11) by Todd Terry. As with all songs remixed in a dance style, the original is pretty much always better. This is totally true here, with a great mixture of acoustic guitar, percussion, synthesised sounds and much more besides. It just fits so perfectly. We all know someone that just disappears off the face of the Earth, and you just wonder where they ...

Amplified Heart - Everything But The Girl

Premium Review The seventh album from Everything But The Girl (1011 words)
by micksheff - written on 01/03/08 (Very useful, 86 readings)
Rating:

by a strumming guitar. Ever since the band s debut album critics have been desperately trying to put the band into a pigeon-hole but as yet they have not succeeded. Everything But the Girl are unique musically in many ways but at the centre of their music is Tracey s strong, smooth voice that has been likened to both Sade and Dido who came along afterwards. Get Me is a much slower song. Here there are violins and Tracey s voice has a slight edge of folk to it. I think this is an interesting song but for me this is very much an album filler. Missing is probably the one song that most people associate Everything But The Girl with but this is the original version, before ...

Love Not Money - Everything But The Girl

Crowned Review The second album from Everything But The Girl (1494 words)
by micksheff - written on 10/11/07 (Very useful, 87 readings)
Rating:

1984 had seen the release of Everything But the Girl s debut album Eden, which had received fantastic feedback and been voted NME s album if that year. Eden had sold over 350,000 copies in the UK and over 500,000 copies worldwide so the pressure was on to follow up this debut with something equally as good, if not better. Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt, who are the duo that comprise the band had been performing many of their new songs live for the past couple of years and it was somewhat surprising that many of these catchy songs had not made it onto their first album. With an abundance of material the band wasted no time in putting out their second album, Love Not Money and ...
