They Might Be Giants' college rock geeky style (a tradition carried on by Barenaked Ladies and Weezer) may annoy some, as being a bit clever-clever, but I love them. This, the second album from duo John Linnell and John Flansburgh was a top selling indie album in the US, but it wasn't really until the next album, "Flood" was released that TMBG became big in the UK. On balance, I prefer "Flood" to "Lincoln", but I still enjoy listening to this album very much. "Ana Ng" is a very strange song, which has many mind-blowing ideas in it, mixed up tenses ("Listen Ana hear my words they're the ones you ... Read the complete review

They Might Be Giants' second album is for me, slightly inferior to their eponymous first album. While their presentation has significantly improved since the first album, and this has a more coherent feel to it, overall, the songs aren't so obviously catchy. That's not to say that there aren't any good songs, the opening two, 'Ana Ng' and 'Cowtown', are certainly superb and very entertaining but, beyond these two, there are no particularly memorable tracks. The lyrics are as insane as ever, as are the song titles – 'Pencil Rain', 'Santa's Beard' and 'Stand On Your Own Head', for example! ... Read the complete review

Its hard to describe the band and their albums so i won't. All i can say is that they're one of the few intelligent bands in the music industry. They write catchy tunes with funny surreal lyrics. Every song on this album is good, my favorites being purple toupee and snowball in hell. I love the way that they play on words within songs and can splice in dialogue from old american public information films. its really hard to describe in words how good this ban is ... Rating:
The first two tracks on this album are amongst the best this band have ever recorded. After the lively rock of Ana Ng and the almost country Cowtown, the rest of the album is initially less impressive, but after a couple of plays, that first impression fades, and the variety and quality of the album shines through. Very few two piece bands can produce such a range of music. Lie Still, Little Bottle, wouldn't sound out of place on a Sinatra album, while Cage and Aquarium gently mocks the hippy sixties. All in all, a very good and relistenable album ... Read the complete review
