      Very helpful

A great live album which highlights the hard work Genesis did on tour.

This album contains songs that were recorded on the Genesis reunion tour of 2007 which saw Phil Collins reunite with Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford as well as old Genesis touring musicians Daryl Streumer and Chester Thompson.
The songs are taken from various concerts on the European leg of their tour. The full concerts from each event were made available via the bands' website, so this is really a 'best of' collection of the live tracks.
Phil's age and the fact that he hadn't performed any Genesis music for a long time, meant that he struggled with the words and music. He referred to a lyric sheet on stage and many of the songs were lowered in key to help Collins reach the notes. This in my opinion does harm a number of tracks which gained power and drama from their high pitch. Technically, the music is played as well as it ever was, with enthusiam and energy.
Some of the highlights of the album include the oldtime crowd favourite 'Carpet Crawlers' which really shows the unique influence Genesis has over their audience.
Afterglow is an epic beauty, like a sun setting on the horizon - the music capturing the mood perfectly.
The classic pop tracks are performed with gusto and expertise although Phil Collins has clearly become an older, more sombre man and treats the music with a seriousness that is perhaps unexpected, seeing as much of the music has a comedic angle. The band's age is glaringly obvious on I can't dance, which is breathy and lacking a little magic.
Some perfection in musical terms: the drum duet (on stools) is like two drummers manic attempts to outdo each other, and showcases Collins and Thomspon's talent.
An enjoyable album and a great reminder of the tour.
