Premium Review The best of?..........Maybe (463 words)
by douglasadams - written on 19/09/05 (Useful, 39 readings)
Rating:

Way back in 1993, when The Wonder Stuff released construction for the modern idiot, they were winning accolades from even the strongest, stone headed reviewers. The NME were even running comparisons between them and bands the like of Madness, Squeeze, Slade and the Jam, describing them as "shaping up to be one of Englands greatest bands of the 90 s". Then with no warning and with no real reason other than "for the fk of it" they decided to split. A year later this album was released, mostly through contractual obligations and partly to grab the last bit of cash from those remaining "Stuffies" as they liked to call us. Yes, i agree it is a ...

Construction For The Modern Idiot - The Wonder Stuff

Premium Review Ever feel like you've been treated (1255 words)
by dcoare - written on 07/11/03 (Very useful, 92 readings)
Rating:

The wonderstuff formed in The mid-eighties, and were one of the biggest influences to my music listening there has ever been. Their mix of pop, with their outspoken views drew me in and still has me bouncing around whenever I take another listen. The original line-up included Miles Hunt(Vocals and the most outspoken of the group), Malcolm Treece(Guitars, and backing vocals), Martin Gilks(Drums, seemed the quiet one), and Rob “Bass thing” Jones(Bass). Although they were well known on the college/university scene from their first material, they never really hit the charts until the release of their third album,”Never Loved Elvis”. This spawned ...

The Eight Legged Groove Machine - The Wonder Stuff

Premium Review Hup, Hup and Away (476 words)
by indiecater - written on 20/04/01 (Very useful, 84 readings)
Rating:

to warrant much attention. The album spawned a few notable singles however. 'Unbearable' is the best known track, popping up on countless indie compilations over the years. The Wonder Stuff were a mighty live prospect, exuding the energy of an E'd up Carter USM. Hunt pulled the strings and bounded round the stage like a certified madman. They have a raggle taggle sound with their harmonised vocals saving the day most of the time. The tunes run for under 3 minutes so as soon as you start getting bored another one sweeps you down another smartie coloured street. 'Give Give Give, More More More' sounds a little dated, as messy guitar squalls ...
