Brainwashed - George Harrison

Premium Review A great tribute to Harrison (178 words)
by adambrown400 - written on 10/08/08 (Useful, 23 readings)
Rating:

Brainwashed was the album George Harrison fans had been waiting for since Cloud Nine in 1987. Unfortunately for those fans it proved to be Harrison s last album, being released after his untimely death. That said, Brainwashed is a great epitaph for Harrison, full of uplifting songs and some that now on reflection come across as very poignant. Any Road opens the album and is a catchy number thats full of fun and energy, as is the second P2 Vatican Blues (Saturday Night). This song, and many others on the album just show how creative Harrison was with wordplay and lyrics. Pisces Fish, Marwa Blues and Looking For My Life are the more poignant songs on the album and are very ...

Crowned Review Stuck Inside A Cloud..... (2494 words)

and shortly before a trip to play the backbreaking all night, every night schedule in Hamburg, on August the 12th 1960, they renamed themselves as The Beatles. George Harrison lay in the shadow of the famous Lennon/McCartney legend for the next ten years, although it was the quiet, shy genius of Harrison on several occasions that The Beatles had owed some gratitude. As well as an accomplished, self taught guitarist, he was the perfect songwriter, but had sadly, only been allowed to stretch his talented wings so far once or twice on an album, when John and Paul jumped in front with around ten killer songs. Enough to lead George away back into the background, the unsung ...

Extra Texture - George Harrison

Premium Review Post Beatles Shmaltzzzz (398 words)
by adambrown400 - written on 24/01/09 (Very useful, 71 readings)

Most post-Beatles solo albums leave a lot to be desired, but for every Tug of War theres a Plastic Ono Band . George Harrison the Quiet One spent most of his time in the fab four as a bit of an add-on. Not really flourishing as a songwriter until The White Album, Abbey Road and Let it Be, so it just goes to show that the majority of his early solo work is of a very high standard. My favourite albums by Harrison are his first double LP- All Things Must Pass and his last, Brainwashed . Extra Texture was his last album for the swindling Apple label, and is considered by many, including Harrison himself to be below-par. The album s opener You is an up tempo wall ...

Good value for money with the amount of tracks, catchy songs, emotive songs A couple of forgettable tracks.

Joyful Antics. Wears Thin About Half Way Through.

Humerous lyrically, some fine moments musically, thought provoking. A few forgettable moments, probably due to the lacklustre production at times.

Some wonderful tracks plus missing material Some fillers and most prefer the previous release 'Escape'

Stuff to dig into Blisters

A collection of a great tracks, interesting subjects and quirky production Previously released tracks on Viva Hate being included

High quality power metal with great keyboards. Cheesy as hell, and largely derivative.

Grave Dancers Union - Soul Asylum
Inspired balladry, typically clever lyrics from Pirner Many will judge on the merits of one song

Purgation - Trigger the Bloodshed
Evil sounding death metal Nothing that outstanding

Deadwing - Porcupine Tree
Musically diverse, yet holds together as an album. "Lazarus" is fantastic. Perhaps "Arriving Somewhere..." is a *little* too long

Heavy Metal - 2005

Lots of bangers A few tunes let it down
