... Anger), it’s perhaps time to reassess this misunderstood record sans make-up and ludicrous pop art videos. What emerges isn’t Alternica as so often branded but a old school Hard Rock record. If Metallica are no longer Metal they draw back to some of Metals more obvious roots: the Rhythmic strut of AC/DC, the ratty Blues of ZZ-Top, the pop smarts of Thin Lizzy. Listening to Ain’t My Bitch it makes one wonder if they didn’t throw away the faded Moterhead T-Shirt as first thought. It isn’t hard to see how this record...more

Crowned Review Load - Metallica: Load Part I: Bay Area Cowboys (2321 words)

In the mid-nineties, platinum-selling US rock band Metallica returned to the studio with the eagerly awaited follow up album to their self-titled record of 1991. Hits such as the anthemic ‘Enter Sandman’ and the reflective ‘Nothing Else Matters’ had made the dedicated band a household name, so the unanticipated change in style led to mixed reactions among the rock community when ‘Load’ was finally released. These fourteen tracks were only a portion of Metallica’s new material, but their plans for a double album spread across the discs ‘Load’ and ‘Reload’ was thwarted by an eager record label that wasn’t prepared to wait any longer for the band to finish the ...

--- SECTION 1 - WHAT THEY SAID --- Four years after the release of the chart-busting self-titled "Black Album", Metallica released its long awaited follow up, Load... and got some pretty shocked reactions. This was NOT what people were used to. There were no more skull-crushingly heavy thrash riffs or dark, gravelly lyrical pieces that could give little kids nightmares or... well, honestly, ANYTHING that can truly be filed as "heavy metal". Metal fans went insane. They unfairly claimed that the album 'blew chunks' or 'sucked' or some other vile participle. The album also earned the band a few nicknames, like "Alternica" or even just ...

This album was released in 1996 on Vertigo records. This CD has to be one of the best in my collection (ah, I can feel you people out there thinking “is collection must be pretty bad then”) but this album is great! There are so many brilliant songs on it. The album comes with a full colour 30-page book with lots of pictures of the band and a small incite of the lyrics from each song. Metallica as usual they have made all their songs (in true Metallica style) complicated with cool riffs all the way through the album, backed up with great vocals and superb guitar playing. The songs on the album include: Ain’t My Bitch- This is a great start ...
