Shooting from the hip (Load - Metallica)
Advantages: Interesting rock in a stagnating field Disadvantages: Some of the tracks are weak
After a long break since the Black Album, Metallica released Load to a mixed reception. People attacked it for being too different, and for 'betraying their fans.' Rubbish. I would hope that any serious musician matures in five years, and Metallica are no exception. While I admit that this doesn't grab you in the same way as their previous efforts, this is a worthy successor to their crown. There are some weaker tracks on this cd, notably 'Wasting my Hate' and the meandering 'Bleeding Me', but I think that this is a record that the band needed to make. It lays the foundations for their next album nicely. Summary: |
