Released in 2007 Lost Highway is Bon Jovi's 13th album since the band formed in 1983. Following on from the success of "Who Says You Can't Go Home" which was a duet with country star Jennifer Nettles from the Have A Nice Day album this record fuses the typical Bon Jovi rock sound with American country music. Hard core fans of the band's 80's sound may not be hugely impressed but changing things helps to keep the band sounding fresh. The country sound is most evident in title track Lost Highway, Til We Aint Strangers Anymore which sees Jon duet with Leann Rimes. We Got It Goin On is a collaboration with country duo Big and Rich and is a fun party song featuring Richie Sambora's trademark vocoder sound.
Summertime and I Love This Town have a slightly poppier sound and are tailor made for open air summer concerts. (You Want To) Make A Memory is a more typical romantic ballad.
There are darker themes running through this record as well - guitarist Richie Sambora had been to rehab after dealing with divorce and the death of his father and this is reflected in songs such as Seat Next To You, Everybody's Broken and The Last Night.
One of Bon Jovi's recuring themes is triumph over adversity and Any Other Day fills that role on this album.
Overall I rate this album above the band's last two - Have a Nice Day and Bounce. It isn't typical Bon Jovi but worth a listen.
Currently on amazon for £6.88 and on iTunes.
Summary: Not a typical Bon Jovi album
