I am a David Gray convert. My wife is a huge fan, and I was forced to listen to his album 'White Ladder' so much that I was in danger of becoming more of a fan than her, which is why I bought this CD, which is one of his earlier releases. It is a collection of 11 songs written and recorded in the three year period 1995-1998, which was the time that he was signed to a record company, and giving the backing to record and promote 'White Ladder', and it was off the back of that success that EastWest record label decided to cash in and release this album in 2001. "Flame Turns Blue' whets our appetites for what is to follow. The folk style is ... Read the complete review

I’ve got a lot of things to thank the lady in my life for (wink, wink, nudge, nudge!), but this perhaps is one of the more publishable ones, bearing in mind that this is supposedly a reputable web site. Back from work I come after a hard weekend, (yes a student that works, I know it must be a shock to you, but some of us unfortunately have to) jump straight into bed to snuggle up to the afore mentioned girlfriend, and what meets my tired ears? A wonderful calm melody, flowing from the CD player. ‘What’s this darling?’ I ask. ‘Oh its that David Grey CD, Lost Songs or something, I bought it in the sale, why do you like it? She ... Lost Songs 95-98 is a collection of 11 tracks recorded between his unsuccessful 1994 album Sell Sell Sell, and 1999's White Ladder, which intially appeared on his own IHT label, before being picked up by EastWest/Warner. Through strong word-of-mouth, White Ladder (by then on its second release) climbed up the UK charts early last summer, followed by the Top 5 breakthrough hit Babylon. Thereafter, White Ladder stuck around to clock up more than 750,000 sales...and it's still charting now, thanks to a third single This Year's Love. Lost Songs, recently issued by EastWest, has also been out before, shortly after White Ladder began to take off ... Read the complete review

Where The Shadows Lie - Battlelore
Atmospheric metal for Tolkien fans.
No one else will find much here.
Swords Song - Battlelore
Improved orchestration.
All the old problems remain.
Sex Starved - Batmobile
More consistent and level-headed.
Tendencies towards silliness still ruin things.
In Control - Nemesea
Sound like Evanescence/Lacuna Coil
Album is too short
Evernight - Battlelore
If you like Evanescence, this should be enough to satisfy your low expectations.
An even greater disappointment than their other albums.
Buried Alive - Batmobile
A commercial release of old demos and rare live material for the fan who has to have everything.
Inferior sound quality and some bad experiments, but at least they're trying.
Bail Is Set At Six Million Dollars - Batmobile
Further psychedelic elements...
...but very few.
Bambooland - Batmobile
Traditional rockabilly with a few psychedelic leanings.
Too traditional to be of any real interest.
Blasts From The Past - Batmobile
Generous serving of songs.
No new material, and a lot of repetition.
A Black Moon Broods Over Lemuria - Bal Sagoth
Original, Distinct, Shows signs of what was to come, the most sinister Bal-Sagoth album
Not as accomplished as later Bal-Sagoth albums
