Easily The Cult's finest hour, Love has just about everything required from a cutting edge, slightly 'Gothic' rock record and then some! The music presented within has great diversity and vocally the whole set is very consistent and impressive. The moody and raw guitar work throughout adds a sense of mystery to the album and the shear quality of the production makes it hard to believe that this was written and recorded way back in 1985. (I know I say this a lot but it certainly stands the test of time). Look no further than the melodic Rain and atmospheric Brother Wolf, Sister Moon, which introduces some drifting backing synth (and thunder ... Read the complete review

The Cult have moved through many phases over their long career. Starting life as The Southern Death Cult, changing briefly to Death Cult before settling on the streamlined The Cult, they evolved from a quirky punk band, through a gothic phase, to evolve finally into a rock institution. Love was the last album they made with a gothic theme before re-emerging as leather clad rock gods. When compared with the previous albums you can see the transformation taking place, and Love benefits from having the rock drive that was to come, combined with the gothic sensibilities of their past. Straight from the echoing opening riff you can tell this song is going to be classic! The Cult were a darker band of the 80's, a ray of light in a time of funny hair and legwarmers. This 1986 track rocks - Ian Astbury growls and hollers about how the world drags him down, the guitars rawk, the drums keep a powerful pace....it all turns into a sublime anthem of defiance and hope and I just love it! Please listen to this wonderful song somehow somewhere! =) ... Read the complete review

Skateboarding Down Merlins Hill With Penny Harry - Picture Frame Seduction
King Of Rock - Run D.M.C.
A couple of nice tracks
Repetitive beats
Into the Unknown - Bad Religion
Brett Gurewitz gets some guitar solos, and Greg Graffin shows he can do mellow too.
A very lousy eighties synth-pop-rock album.
Human Jerky - Cattle Decapitation
Better guitars than most grindcore.
It's still the same old grindcore excrement.
Sword's Song - Ambehr
Pleasantly melodic heavy metal with strong melodic death metal touches.
Later songs fail to leave as great an impression.
El Angel Caido - Avalanch
The peak of Avalanch's melodic/prog/power style, with interesting experiments.
Some songs still seem like filler, especially by comparison to the strong closing material.
Bard's Song - Blind Guardian
It's a great old song.
We didn't need five versions.
Animetal Marathon 3: Tsuburaya Pro - Animetal
Consistent heavy metal adaptations of anime theme tunes.
No good for people who don't get it, and lacking in variety.
