Advantages: Some magical surprises

Officially the soundtrack to a Las Vegas musical of the same name, this album is a strange sound on first listen, but grows on you over time.

I'm not usually a fan of compilations, but this one works as it goes down a different route to most - completely revamping the songs & remixing them to meld into each other. 'I Want You' segues in at the end of 'Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite' & it works marvelously, as does the inclusion of an early concert, at the height of Beatlemania.

On the other hand, there are times when you wish you could just hear the songs, without parts from another song mixed in, or without it fusing seamlessly into something else. It works, & I would imagine the musical is a sight to behold, but I would always choose the to listen within the context of the original albums, above what is essentially a glorified medley, albeit an enjoyable one.

Summary: Spectacular at times, but feels a little like a marketing tool than an essential release
