Recently I received some Lovetoshop vouchers that can be used in HMV shops. Subsequently I was in my local shopping mall and when I passed the HMV shop I decided to check out the CDs. I came across the offer of 2 for £10. After a quick search I got 2 CDs. Love Songs (A Compilation...Old and New) by Phil Collins is one of them.

About Phil Collins:
Phil Collins was born in 1951. He is an English singer, songwriter, drummer, pianist and actor. His professional music career began as a drummer. When he was a member of Genesis he made him well- known as a drummer and vocalist. As a solo artist he has won numerous music awards throughout his career, including seven Grammy Awards, five Brit Awards including Best British Male three times, etc. In 2010 Phil Collins was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis.
Price and availability:
As I said earlier I used £10 voucher for two CDs in a HMV shop. However you may possibly be able to get it cheaper online. Currently it is sold on Amazon website for just £4.49. It's also available on other retailers and the prices are similar.
Before I bought the CD I didn't have any idea about Phil Collins. So I didn't have any high expectation for it. I was attracted by the cover design, which is an air mail envelope. However when I played it on my Pure Digital DMX-25 I was really pleased with my choice.
Every time when I listen to this CD, I feel very relaxed. It can remind me of my old times and it always cheers me up. Now it has become my favourite CD.
Due to my limited ability in English I can't understand every word in his songs. However that doesn't bother me. I love the feel of great music and I think he has written and sung some very beautiful love songs on this album. I can listen to over and over again.
The CD of Love Songs (A Compilation...Old and New) by Phil Collins is really a great album and is definitely worth the money. I highly recommend it. No matter you are Phil Collins fan or not.
Phil always excels himself when it comes to love songs, so it was little surprise that he decided to do an entire album of the things. His resonant voice and unconventional good looks have always had the power to grip me.
Who is he:
Former member of Genesis, occasional actor and very successful solo artist, who has notched up millions of sales in his career.
On this album:
'One More Night' is the kind of track to play when you're missing the loved one or have just been dumped. It is downbeat lyrically yet encouraging with a very warm melody. Phil's vocals are wonderful here, soft and tender and he sounds so calm as he sings.
I never rated 'Groovy Kind Of Love' finding the lyrics too sickly, yet in retrospect, the lyrics balance well with the melody, creating an almost ambient sounding track with a mesmerising tune.
For something more considered, 'Against All Odds' finds Phil on top form, battling with some inner demons and delivering a truly emotive turn. The song starts in a minimal fashion before building to a lavishing climax, where his vocals are out in full force.
There are two discs here and while the first disc is stronger, 'True Colours ' on disc two is a worthy cover version, with some soaring vocals and a polished performance once again. It is less grating than the Lauper version. Disc two will please hardcore fans, with some live tracks and unreleased takes on familiar Collins songs.
25 tracks, a tasteless front cover which looks cheap but a fine collection of stirring songs.
this CD isn't a bad starter. Released on 28th January 2002, all the marketing surrounding this album was geared at promoting this as the perfect Valentine's present. PRESENTATION: The design of this CD is very classy. A simple white cover with LOVE written in the front in red lettering. It is embellished with a small heart design, featuring on the back, inside the rim, and on the CDs themselves. The CDs are also white with red lettering. I found it somewhat confusing to work out which CD was disc one, and which was disc two! The trick to this is that CD 1 has one heart on, and CD 2 two hearts. (Still confusing if you ask me!) Dido - Thank You I love this song by Dido, being quite an avid Dido fan. Such a beautiful start to the cd. "I drank too much last night, got bills to pay my head just feels in pain I missed the bus and there'll be hell today I'm late for work again and even if I'm there, they'll all imply that I might not last the day and then you call me and it's not so bad it's not so bad and I want to thank you for giving me the best day of my life Oh just to be with you is having the best day of my life" She's had quite a rough start to her day but it's alright because she is in love with a man who makes it all ok. 8/10 02. Elton John - I Want Love I'm not much of an Elton John fan, but I quite like 'I Want Love', not least because it featured the delicious Robert Downey Jr. in the video and every time I hear it I picture him (thank God I don't picture Elton!). "But I want love, just a different kind I want love, won't break me down Won't brick me up, won't fence me in I want a love, that don't mean a thing That's the love I want, I want love " This is more a man's kind of tune - he doesn't want sweet romance but a rougher kind of love. 7/10 03. Gabrielle - Don't Need The Sun To Shine This is an uplifting love song from Gabrielle. "Don't need the sun to shine To make me smile Don't care if it's dark outside Cause I got you
An
d though the rain may fall
No, I won't care at all Cause baby, I know that I got you" Being in love can make you smile regardless of the weather. This song is very sunny and always makes me smile a little. 8/10 04. Lighthouse Family - One/Free This man, the singer Tunde Baiyewu, has an amazing voice, so smooth and warming. "I wish I could share All the love that's in my heart Remove all the bars that keep us apart And I wish you could know how it is to be me Then you'd see and agree that every man should be free " Incredibly laid back, this is a great song to listen to as you chill out with your loved one on a Sunday afternoon. 8/10 07. Natalie Imbruglia - Torn Love isn't always easy, as Natalie lets us know in this song. "I'm all out of faith This is how I feel I'm cold and I am shamed Lying naked on the floor" This is a great song, no matter how many times you hear it. 9/10 LOW POINTS: CD 1 08. Marti Pellow - Close To You Eww! Once upon a time, back in the 80s there was a man called Marti who had some self respect… This is so embarrassing, what on earth was Marti Pellow thinking? Give it up, man! It goes something like… "I wanna get close to you Tell me you want me to What can I do?" I think you get the picture. 2/10 16. Hear'Say - The Way To Your Love Oh dear, why did they put Hear'Say on this CD? "Every day every night Fill my shadows with light When I feel all alone Your heart is my home Every night every day You'll show me the way Show me the way to your Show me the way to your love" It's not bad as far as Hear'Say songs go but it isn't great either. 5/10 17. Yazoo - Only You Anot
her quite old song - I didn't know that Yazoo was Vince Clarke & Alison Moyet until today. "All I needed was the love you gave all I needed for another day and all I ever knew only you" It's not very catchy or entertaining. 4/10 HIGH POINTS: CD 2 03. Samantha Mumba - Lately Samantha Mumba is probably Ireland's most popular export at the moment and quite rightly so. "Lately I've been watching you. Been thinking about you baby. And everything you do. Just sittin' away watching the days go by" Another sad song about losing the one you love, I'd give this 8/10. 06. The Bangles - Eternal Flame Thank God, it’s the original and not the atrocious Atomic Kitten rendition. "Close your eyes, give me your hand, darling Do you feel my heart beating Do you understand Do you feel the same Am I only dreaming Is this burning an eternal flame" This is a timeless classic, 8/10. 10. INXS - Never Tear Us Apart Ah! A classic. Gotta love INXS. "Don't ask me What you know is true Don't have to tell you I love your precious heart I..........I was standing You were there Two worlds collided And they could never tear us apart" Loving without being mushy, I'd have to give this 9/10. 11. Paul Weller - You Do Something To Me Love it! I paid £5 for the single of this song I love it that much. "You do something to me - something deep inside I'm hanging on the wire - for a love I'll never find You do something wonderful - then chase it all away Mixing my emotions - that throws me back again Hanging on the wire, I'm waiting for the change I'm dancing through the fire, just to catch a flame - an' feel real again" <
br> One of my all-time favourite love songs, 10/10. 13. The Temptations - My Girl Another classic, by The Temptations. "I've got sunshine on a cloudy day And when its cold outside girl I've got the month of May Oh I guess you'd say what can make me feel this way My girl, talkin' 'bout my girl, my girl" Timeless in its appeal, a decent 8/10 14. Diana Ross - Love Hangover This woman has style. Diana Ross is as old as my grandmother yet glamorous as hell! "Ah If there's a cure for this I don't want it Don't want it If there's a remedy I'll run from it From it Think about it all the time Never let it out of my mind 'Cause I love you" Purr this the day after, whilst daydreaming about your steamy encounter, 9/10. LOW POINTS: 05. Ronan Keating - Lovin' Each Day Over-rated Ronan yet again. His voice is so far from perfect and his range is sadly lacking, so why is Mr Keating so popular? "We're lovin' each day as if it's our last Dancing all night and havin' a blast Oh baby, I want you right here next to me We're lovin' each day as if it's our last Dancing all night and havin' a laugh Please baby I need you here" This is probably his worst offering so far, 4/10. Overall, I'd give this CD 3 stars. THE WEBSITE: http://www.thelovealbum.com What the website says: 'Love' is a collection of everlasting love songs, featuring 40 of the hottest love songs around. This album sells for £14.99 in most shops (I've seen it in Tesco), but of course mine was free.
