      Well worth a listen

Lunic, we're one of the names appearing at Glastonbury this year that I didn't recognise - the band hail from New York state and were one of the acts playing on Thursday, a night without many big names but one which surprisingly held some of the best acts. I decided to check out their latest album.

They call themselves alternative rock - personally I'd describe them as an eighties disco pop type thing with a rock edge and the occasional inclusion of folk/classical instruments. The band have the catchiness of The Eurythmics or Roxette but could also be likened to The Cranberries, singer Kaitee Page has a nice voice - a mixture of sweet and occasionally deep it certainly suits the kind of music the band and brings the best out of the lyrics.

The violin playing is quite strong on a number of tracks. Notable hits seem to be "Love Me" and the rockier "Him", in fact the first half the album is considerably stronger than it's finish. The album starts off with a dark sound and slowly becomes a bit more poppy, the muddy drumming and guitar playing is often suddenly brought to life by lively crisp riffs and an awesome bass line - it definitely beats other indie newcomers hands down and they have already developed their own strong sound.

I recommend giving this album a go, it surprised me and whilst I haven't fallen in love with it, it's certainly very good and it should definitely appeal to light rock fans.
