The Neo-Soul super-group, Lucy Pearl, dropped their self-entitled debut in 2000. In the group, at this point, you find former, En Vogue singer, Dawn Robinson, Raphael Saadiq, of Tony! Toni! Toné!, as well as A Tribe Called Quest's Ali Shaheed Muhammad on the beats. I expect that most will only know them for the single "Don't Mess With My Man", although their material really deserves a lot more attention as they brought together R&B, Soul and Hip Hop in a way which had not been seen before. 1. "Lucy Pearl's Way" (Intro) 2. "Trippin'" To get you into the proper material on the album, this one finds them ... Read the complete review

You may have heard of Lucy Pearl, you may not. But I can tell you they have had some hits recentely, including "Don't Mess With My Man" and "Without You". And they have collaborated with rap superstar Snoop Dogg. So, there quite important in the music scene then. There new album, which is self-titled Lucy Pearl is a collection of some very smooth R&B numbers mixed in with some rap collaborations (Q-Tip and Snoop Dogg). It's R&B, but not as we know it. R&B has become very pop (aka. crap), with artists like Destiny's Child* and their contemporaries just doing a "I love my boy / I want to kill my boy / I want my boy back", and with ... When it comes to light, easy listening funky tunes, very few people make better music than my band! However, one band that beats us hands down is Lucy Pearl. This Album, the self titled Lucy Pearl, is a great collection of many different types of music coming together and forming a great blend of funk, R&B,hip hop, dance and guitar music. If you look at the lineup for the band, you will see how this came about. Firstly, is vocalist, Dawn Robinson. You would recognise her from all girl 90's Soul act, "En Vogue". She was obviously the talent of that band with her her powerful voice. This really gives this album some ... Read the complete review

Why has this album been so widely ignored? It's absolutely fantastic, easily one of the best R&B albums of the last few years. A bit of background first then: Lucy Pearl are a 'supergroup', comprising of ex-members of En Vogue, Toni Tone Tone and A Tribe Called Quest. Since the album was released, lead singer Dawn Robinson has (apparently) quit, so we are unlikely to hear more from this talented outfit in the near future...which is a real shame as the LP is superb. ATCQ's influence is easily apparent in the laid-back chill of this album. Tracks such as 'Everyday' and 'Dance Tonight' should be played at full volume on a hot ... Read the complete review

You know that Lucy Pearl is going to be that little bit more special then other albums due to the sheer amount of talent in the group. Lucy Pearl is made up of Dawn Robinson (lead vocalist) who is an ex member of en vogue, Ali Shaheed Muhammad (from a tribe called quest) and Raphael Saadiq (from tony toni tone) With all of these gifthed individuals working together, you know that this album is going to be special. Lucy pearl is an amazing album. I feel that any album with a mix of beats and vibes makes it more interesting and worth listening too, and this album has just that. With a mix of funk, r&b, and a little bit of hip hop and rock, this album is sure to ... Read the complete review
