Advantages: Soooo chilled

Disadvantages: Rock tracks on R&B albums don't work!

Why has this album been so widely ignored? It's absolutely fantastic, easily one of the best R&B albums of the last few years. A bit of background first then: Lucy Pearl are a 'supergroup', comprising of ex-members of En Vogue, Toni Tone Tone and A Tribe Called Quest. Since the album was released, lead singer Dawn Robinson has (apparently) quit, so we are unlikely to hear more from this talented outfit in the near future...which is a real shame as the LP is superb.

ATCQ's influence is easily apparent in the laid-back chill of this album. Tracks such as 'Everyday' and 'Dance Tonight' should be played at full volume on a hot summer's day, whilst the strongest track, the uptempo 'Don't Mess With My Man' is an absolutely killer cut, and was massive in the clubs (and a UK top 30 hit) towards the end of last year. The only track which doesn't fit in with the album is 'Hollywood' - sort of R&B meets Lenny Kravitz, which doesn't really work. Aside from this the album is extremely classy work, perfect for chilling out to any time.

Hopefully the group will work things out because, on the strength of this, a follow-up album would be unmissable.

Buy it for the simple reason that it'll put a massive smile on your face!

I agree this is a superb album, I rate it alongside Jill Scott's 'Who Is Jill Scott?' as the best album of 2000. I agree too that Hollywood just doesn't fit in with the rest of the tracks, I always skip that one! Good op. Jo :@)
